Farzi marks Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor’s OTT debut in his career of twenty years. It will stream on Amazon Prime Video from February 10 in Hindi and Tamil.
Shahid Kapoor, along with co-star Vijay Sethupathi and filmmakers Raj & DK, launched the trailer of his upcoming web series Farzi on Friday. During the trailer launch, Shahid expressed his excitement about starting the new year on a positive note, as he had experienced both ups and downs in 2022. He mentioned that it was the best start for the year and was thrilled to launch the show on February 10, which also happens to be his birthday month.
Shahid’s debut in the Farzi OTT Platform world after a successful career spanning 20 years in the film industry. Shahid also mentioned his admiration for the duo’s previous works, including The Family Man one and two.
Shahid further added that the filmmakers initially approached him for a film, but he expressed interest in collaborating with them on a show instead. The idea that they had previously narrated to him eight years ago as a movie, was too big in terms of length to fit into a single story.
However, this ended up being a positive for Farzi as it allowed for a longer format and allowed for more time to develop the characters and the story. According to Shahid, the first season of Farzi is equal to two-and-a-half movies, and if people like it, they could make another season. He also mentioned that by the time he finished playing the character of Sunny, he felt like it was just the beginning of his journey with the character.
Shahid also spoke about his experience of working with Vijay Sethupathi, calling him “Makkal Selvan” or “people’s treasure” in Tamil. He mentioned that it was his first time working with Vijay and it was a privilege to do so. Although their characters in the show didn’t have much interaction, Shahid found Vijay’s mind and acting abilities to be interesting and expressed a desire to work with him more in the future. He considered it an opportunity to learn from Vijay, who he considered to be truly an actor at heart.
He said that the filmmakers didn’t officially offer him the show, but he was curious about their work and took the initiative to ask about it. The actor revealed that he and the filmmakers spent five to six months discussing the show, with Shahid providing feedback on the development process.
Shahid described his approach to acting as “instinctive” and stated that he enjoys working in the long format of Farzi OTT Platform shows. He believes that this format allows him to bring more depth to his characters and create an immersive experience for the audience.
He said that he doesn’t have a specific process for acting, but rather follows his instincts. As a viewer, Shahid also enjoys the immersive experience of long format content and spends more time watching it than going to the movies. He concluded by saying that he was excited for the opportunity to work in this format.
